Are you living in a Perfectionist Fantasy?
Do you like to visualize your perfect life that you’ll have one day?
Do you make a ton of Pinterest boards for your future house, your future style, your future way of entertaining, a board for the things you’ll buy when you’re rich and famous?
It can be fun to imagine different lives for yourself, but if you’re constantly making boards and wishing for something to change in the future, you're living in a perfectionistic idealism in your head.
By making all these Pinterest boards and imagining how your life could be and what you want, you can get stuck in the fantasy of how your life is now. It feels good because you’re indulging in these thoughts of imagining good things for yourself. But then you stay in the fantasy rather than look at yourself, where you are now, and how you can get where you want to be.
The fantasy gives you a dopamine hit to your brain which feels good. But when you pop out of it and you realize you’re not any closer to it, it can feel like a big letdown. So you decide you’d rather live in the fantasy on Pinterest boards and imagining your dream life than work to get there.
But you CAN get the things you want to have. You can pull yourself out of that despair that happens when you see where you are now.
And that’s where thought work comes in.
Changing the way you think will get you to stop living between the fantasy and despair. You can face the things you don’t like about your life now and you can change them. Sometimes that is just accepting where you are now then moving forward.
You can’t just wish for things to be different. We don’t actually live in a fantasyland. We live in the real world. And to get the things you want in real life means to have to open your eyes and pull yourself out of the daydream and be strong enough to build your life for yourself.
Imagine this…
✨ Instead of looking at social media and pretending your life is perfect, you looked around and your life was mostly there (because let’s be honest, you’ll never have a 100% perfect life- no one does, not even if it looks like it online).
✨ Imagine how much more capable and powerful you’d feel knowing you built that for yourself. You did the work to build your ideal life as best you can.
✨ Imagine how much better that will feel than hiding behind your screen wishing and hoping for your life to be different.
By getting off social media, you can build so much more than your ideal life.
You build resiliency, capability, self-trust and confidence to go get the things you want, instead of preferring to live in your daydream behind the screen.
If that sounds like something you want to do, but don’t know how to start, I can help guide you so you can start working toward your ideal life.
