Social Media Reminders
It seems like everyone is a little overwhelmed with social media lately, so I thought I would share some things to keep in mind when you spend time on social media.
- ‘Likes’ on social media don't equal your worth or value! (whether you get a lot or a little)
- If people haven't ‘liked’ your post, they may not have seen your Facebook post due to the algorithm. To get around it, the best way to connect with people is directly (email, text call).
- Don't take social media personally. The good or the bad. It can feel really bad to not get engagement and it can feel really good to get a lot of engagement, but it can be superficial (not that our posts are superficial -- but what does a 'like' from someone you haven't seen since high school compare with the feeling of a phone call with a close friend?), so take it all at face value. The people you interact with outside of social media are what really matters.
- If you're getting a lot of notifications or communication, you don't have to reply to everyone right away. They can wait while you rest.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade because I do like social media -- it's super fun and a great networking tool, so that's just it -- have fun with it!
These are just some pointers if you get too deep into the FOMO, comparison, and the scroll.
